    TITLE: HIGHRISE
SYNOPSIS: In the midst of a vast ocean stands the Elysium Tower – a glistening vertical city – a sanctuary for challenging times. Powered by sun and earth, designed by the greatest architectural visionary of the new millennium, Elysium is a self contained world. A world of commerce, cuisine and entertainment, featuring restaurants, swimming pools, libraries, cinemas, even a research hospital. It is not just the tallest and most technologically advanced work of modern architecture, but one that embodies the world's highest aspirations. Dr. Robert Laing, a new arrival, settles in and adjusts to this hermetic life. But before long he becomes aware of something unsettling in the building. In an escalating atmosphere of unrest the residents break into tribal factions. Laing watches in horror as the myth of a utopian society is shattered.

    TITLE: BURDEN OF DESIRE
SYNOPSIS: Halifax was a busy port in 1917. The First World War was raging in Europe where millions of soldiers suffered pointless deaths. All troops and ammunition were transported on ships via Halifax, where they awaited a convoy across the Atlantic in order to avoid the German submarines.

On December 6th, 1917 two ships collided in the Halifax harbour causing the biggest explosion in history prior to Hiroshima in 1945. Thousands were killed and half of the city disappeared. For the survivors life changed radically.

With a world still reeling from the trauma of September 11th and the recent tsunami disaster in the Indian ocean, Burden of Desire holds a mirror to these cataclysmic events. It shows what happens when a society is torn apart physically and emotionally – delivering an anti-war sentiment that has more relevance now, than ever before.

TITLE: COCKSURE (A Sort of Musical)
SYNOPSIS: Set in London in the swinging 60s, Mordecai Richler’s COCKSURE is an irreverent blend of Austin Powers, Hairspray and The Producers.

It is a biting satire of stardom, publishing, the film industry and the sexual revolution delivered through Richler’s wit and wisdom.

COCKSURE centers around the misadventures of Mortimer Griffin, a beleaguered and idealistic filmmaker whose small film company is being swallowed up by a huge conglomerate. It is a tale filled with eccentric characters: the gorgeous Polly who directs her life as though it were a movie; Rachel Coleman, slinky black-panther of the boudoir; Starmaker, the narcissistic Hollywood tycoon who has discovered the secret to eternal life; and a precocious group of schoolchildren with a taste for the teaching of the Marquis de Sade.
