Capri Films was founded by veteran producer Gabriella Martinelli (Baz Luhrmanns Romeo & Juliet, David Cronenbergs Dead Ringers, M Butterfly and Naked Lunch, and Clive Barkers Night Breed) to create, develop and produce feature film, and television projects from conception to delivery. The Capri brand is known for its discerning taste and delivery of high end product for the Canadian and international marketplace. Since its inception in 2001, Capri has specialized in international treaty co-productions such as Between Strangers, a Canada-Italy co-production directed by Edoardo Ponti, starring Sophia Loren, Pete Postlethwaite, Malcolm McDowell, Deborah Kara Unger and Mira Sorvino, and Terry Gilliams surrealistic feature Tideland, a Canada-UK co-production reuniting with Naked Lunch co-producer Jeremy Thomas and The Recorded Picture Company, starring Jeff Bridges and Jennifer Tilly. For the television marketplace, Capri has co-produced such event mini-series as Lives Of The Saints, starring Sophia Loren, Sabrina Ferilli, Kris Kristofferson, Nick Mancuso, Jessica Paré and Fabrizio Filippo; and two two-part four hour mini-series, Karol: The Man who became Pope, and Karol: The Pope who stayed a Man based on the life of the late Pope John Paul II, starring Kenneth Welsh, Matt Craven, and Lesley Ann Hope with Italys Tao Due.

Maintaining a close relationship with filmmakers, Capri produced Pete Postlethwaites award-winning live stage show Scaramouche Jones at the Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto in the winter of 2003, as well as documentaries by Vincenzo Natali (Getting Gilliam), and Adam Reid (Dancing in the Flames (2008)).
